Comelec urges voters to register for Barangay, SK Polls

VIRAC, Catanduanes, June 26 (PIA) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office here is encouraging the public, particularly the youth, to register for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections on October 8, 2013.

Lawyer Maria Aurea C. Bo-Bunao, Comelec provincial election supervisor, said the registration for the October polls will start on July 22 and shall end on July 31.

Those who voted for SK elections in 2010 need to register again to be able to vote for the Barangay Elections.

Registrants should have the following qualifications: Filipino citizen residing in the barangay for at least six (6) months; at least fifteen (15) years old but less than eighteen (18) years old on Election Day; and Duly registered in the list of the sangguniang kabataan or in the official barangay list in the custody of the barangay secretary.

Meanwhile, registration for the Barangay elections is open to new voters at least 18 years old, transferees, and those who need entry corrections and reactivation.

The filing of certificates of candidacy is set on Oct. 15 to 17 and the campaign period starts on Oct. 18 to 26. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
