2013 'Linggo ng Kalikasan' kicks-off

VIRAC, Catanduanes, June 18 (PIA) -- The celebration of the Linggo ng Kalikasan (Environment Week) 2013 here started yesterday with a fun-run activity from Catanduanes State University to Provincial Capitol Dome.

The activity dubbed “Takbo para sa Kalikasan” started 5:30 a.m. It was participated by employees of the different national and local agencies in the province.


Aiming to promote social awareness to address solid waste management problems with emphasis on its environmental and economic dimensions, the week-long celebration will focus on the theme: “Basura: Pangasiwaan para sa Kalikasan at Kabuhayan” (Waste: Manage for Environment and Economy).

Meanwhile, a tree-planting activity was held this morning at Palnab, Virac as part of the Catanduanes Arbor Day which was led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

A Pauragan Competition among the employees of different government agencies will also be held today at Catanduanes State University. Questions will cover different topics concerning the environment.

Other activities scheduled for the celebration are: Collage Making, Logo Making Contest and Gabi ng Parangal.

The Linggo ng Kalikasan which is being celebrated for the third time this year began in 2011 pursuant to Provincial Ordinance 003-2010. (MAL/EAB/PIA5-Catanduanes)
