By Edna A. Bagadiong

VIRAC, Catanduanes, May 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DOH) through the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Virac conducted the Buntis Congress on May 24 to help lessen maternal-related mortality.

The Buntis Congress was held to raise awareness among the pregnant and “would be pregnant” on the importance of proper health and nutrition before, during and after pregnancy.

Topics that were covered in the activity are maternal and child health interventions including antenatal registration, high-risk pregnancy, labor, and delivery, as well as newborn screening, breastfeeding, maternal and child nutrition, and family planning.

Virac Rural Health Officer Dr. Arlene Q. Arcilla said that with the holding of the Buntis Congress, the mortality rate on pregnancy-related cases in the province particularly in this town will be reduced.

Arcilla said that women must undergo facility-based delivery in hospitals to be assured of proper medication and attention before, during and after delivery.

Participants in the activity were thankful to the organizers as according to them, they earned a lot from the lectures.

Around 50 pregnant women from the 11 towns of the province attended the activity. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)#
