Spear Troopers to Give Free Ride to Job Seekers from Far-Flung Areas to Jobs Fair

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur --- In order to give chance to job seekers who might not have the resources to bring themselves to Naga City to seek their luck this Labor Day, the 9th Infantry (Spear) Division will come to the rescue with a Free Ride or “Libreng Sakay para sa mga Manggagawa” with pick-up points in three provinces in Bicol Region

The Jobs Fair and Livelihood Fair, jointly spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Bicol Region and SM City Naga with other stakeholders, are slated on May 1 Wednesday. It will be a whole day activity at the SM City Naga with at least 67 establishments participating to give job seekers chance to look for careers that would suit their qualifications and livelihood grant beneficiaries of DOLE to showcase and sell their products to the public, DOLE Region 5 Official Christine Soriano said.

Army trucks from battalions and brigades of the Philippine Army will have their respective pick-up points in Albay, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte to fetch applicants for the Jobs Fair from far-flung barangays and deliver them to the venue for free.

The use of Army truck is to ensure that even those who live in hard to reach areas would be given equal chance with those living near the event venues.

Units participating in the Free Ride are 2nd Infantry Battalion, 42nd Infantry Battalion, 49th Infantry Battalion, 901st Brigade, 902nd Brigade and the 9th Civil Military Operations Battalion.

SM City Naga Press Relations Officer Tina Sumayao said that there will also be a pre-registration of applicants on April 30 Tuesday where participants will be given stubs to allow them a slot at the “express lane” on May 1. Those who would avail of the pre-registration will be able to avoid the rush and having to wait in line on the event day itself.

“The Free Ride is to assist poor, yet qualified and deserving people within the division’s area of responsibility to find employment in the Jobs Fair which is in support to the poverty reduction program of the national government slowly being realized through the efforts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ IPSP-Bayanihan,” said Major General Romeo V Calizo, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division.

Another similar Jobs Fair will also be held at Embarcadero de Legazpi City simultaneously on Labor Day.
