Agrarian reform communities get common service facilities

NAGA CITY, Mar 11 (PIA) -- Twenty-three common service facilities (CSF) were turned over to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOS) on Tuesday as part of the continuing Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity and Economic Support Services (ARCCESS) project being implemented by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

The activity was held at the DAR Provincial Office here during the Blessing and Turnover of the CSF to ARBOS from Camarines Sur A, Camarines Sur B and Camarines Norte. It was attended by ARBO recipients coming from various parts of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte, Municipal Mayors from different local government units of both provinces and other stakeholders.

DAR-Bicol Regional Director Maria Celestina Manlagñit-Tam expressed her gratitude for the cooperation and dedication exhibited by all the beneficiaries of the services being offered by DAR.

“Today, we marked another milestone in agrarian reform. We are now receiving the key results of our efforts. This new program, the ARCCESS, is not only mere equipment dispersal but a window for business, livelihood opportunities and economic growth, “ Tam said in her speech.

Six ARBOs, which include the Pinit Irrigators Association (PIA) , Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid sa Tinawagan (ALAMAT), Bicol Sugar Coconut Planters Association (BISUCOPA) , Bayanihan Savings Replication Organization (BSRO) , Quepotol Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (QFMPC) and San Agustin-San Ramon Farmer’s Cooperative, Inc. (SARFC) received different CSFs during the said occasion.

The Bayanihan Savings Replication Organization (BSRO) from Danawin Del Gallego received 2 units of handtractors with implements, 1 mechanical transplanter with seeder conveyor and 2 units set of 8,000 trays and 1 unit combine Harvester. It was accepted by BSRO members together with Del Gallego Mayor Lydia Abarientos. The Quepotol Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (QFMPC) from Cabugao, Milaor also took home the same CSFs.

San Agustin-San Ramon Farmer’s Cooperative, Inc. (SARFC) from Bula, Camarines Sur and Pinit Irrigators Association (PIA) from Barangay Pinit, Ocampo with 349 and 783 beneficiaries respectively were also granted with CSF that they can use in tilling their lands. SARFC received one unit of mechanical transplanter with seeder conveyor and I unit set of 4,000 trays.

Bula Mayor Benjamin Decena in addition to this, pledged and committed 20 cavans of hybrid seeds for the transplanters.

Members of Pinit Irrigators Association took home 5 units of handtractors with implements plus one combined harvester. Bicol Sugar Coconut Planters Association (BISUCOPA) from Hacienda Salamat, Cadlan, Pili also received 1 unit 4WD , 90 HP with implements while ALAMAT from Tinawagan, Tigaon was also granted with 4 units of corn sheller.

OIC PARO II Camarines Sur Ramon Fuentebella said that the recipients will also be given trainings on how to properly utilize the said facilities. He added that part of the ARCCESS program is the provision of comprehensive business training programs to officials and members of ARBOs. Part of the lecture will cover business etiquette, marketing assistance, accounting & financial management, credit funds & guarantee programs, among others. (LSMacatangay/ PIA-Camarines Sur)


2 rebels killed in Catanduanes encounter

VIRAC, Catanduanes, March 11, (PIA) -- Two suspected communist rebels were killed in a clash with Philippine Army (PA) at Manambrag, San Andres, Catanduanes last Friday, March 8.

83rd Infantry Batallion of PA ledd by Lt. Col. Bernardo Fortez, Jr. said on March 8, at about 3:30 p.m., Scout Platoon led by 2Lt. Freddie Dela Rama, Jr. encountered around 20 fully armed New People’s Army rebels Brgy Manambrag. Firefight lasted for 10 mins. and rebels withdrew towards west direction.

No one was hurt on the government side, as troops immediately mounted a hot-pursuit operation against the fleeing rebels.

Recovered from the scene were one M635 rifle, one M14 rifle, 15 assorted ammunition, explosive device, cellphone and documents which was presented to the local media during the press conference.

Slain rebels were identified as Cristopher Zuniega, 22 of Calatagan Tibang, Virac and Anthony Baldres, 24 of Brgy. Tucao Caramoran. Both were claimed by their respective families after undergoing autopsy.(EAB/ PIA Catanduanes)
