3 Albayanos named Outstanding Students of Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY, March 7 (PIA) -- Three students from the province of Albay are included in the Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol (TOSB) for 2013.
Shanna Marie Montales and Janine Bio, both from Divine Word College of Legazpi (DWCL), and Jeric Diño of Ligao Community College (LCC) in Ligao City, Albay are among the top 10 students lauded at the awarding ceremony held March 4 at the Bicol University Amphitheater.
The top 10 studes were chosen from 20 finalists all over the region.
Montales, a fourth year AB English, is a consistent academic achiever and student leader. She is the current secretary-general of the DWCL College Student Executive Board (CSEB) and a candidate for summa cum laude this school year.
Bio, a fifth year Bachelor of Science and Accountancy student, was a former officer of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Tabaco City and currently the internal vice chairperson of the CSEB.
Diño has likewise been a consistent achiever in both academics and community involvement activities.
Also among the Top Ten are Mary Alyssa Jenica Sariba and John Paul Taday of University of Nueva Caceres, Aldrin San Juan of La Consolacion College Daet Camarines Norte, Karen S. Monge and John Moses Orbon of University of Saint Anthony Iriga City, Jacqueline Meghann Eleazar of Ateneo De Naga University and John Lester Lisano of Computer Communication Development Institute (CCDI), Sorsogon City.
TOSB is a joint project of Philippine Association of Campus Students, Commission on Higher Education, Bicol University, and Ako Bicol partylist which aims to recognize the exemplary contributions of Bicolano students in academics, co-curricular activities, and community involvement.
The selection process involves paper screening, press conference, on-the-spot essay writing, and panel interview with representatives from different sectors in society. (MAL/SAA/CDG-PIA 5, Albay).
City gov’t, partners sponsor livelihood training program for women

LEGAZPI CITY, March 6 (PIA) -- At least a thousand members of the Legazpi City Women’s Federation (LCWF) and other women’s organizations from cities and towns of the province of Albay benefited from a three-day Livelihood Training Program held here on March 1-3.
Mayor Carmen Geraldine B. Rosal said that the training provided opportunities for all the participants to gain more know-how and improve their skills in the operation and management of venture, particularly in baking, making bath soap and dish washing liquid making and in massage therapy.
Rosal said that the same program is very timely and significant for the locales, especially those in the marginalized community, as this will serve as a venue for strengthening programs on poverty reduction.
The training program was spearheaded by the city government here, Ako Bicol and Agham partylist groups, and the LCWF.
Rosal meanwhile urged all the participants to make use of their learning to help create more community-based livelihood projects as their alternative source of income.
LCWF vice president Lilibeth Muños-Dimaculangan observed that the training program will give the LCWF an opportunity to put up bath soap making and dish washing liquid business to benefit all its members and other women’s organizations. (MAL/MPSolis-LGU Legazpi City/PIA5)
