1st Cagsawa Trail Run set Feb 26

LEGAZPI CITY, February 16 (PIA) – Daraga town gears up for the 1st Cagsawa Trail Run on the 26th of February as one of the major events in line with the month-long celebration of 1st Cagsawa Festival.

Myn Sta Ana, Cagsawa Trail Run organizer, said in an interview in the PIA V “Ugnayan sa Bikol” radio program, said the eco-trail running event will not only spark up the challenge of competition among local and national runners but also will promote the rich scenic topography surrounding the historic Cagsawa Ruins in Daraga town, including the church’s belfry which has remained standing as testimony of the enormous disaster caused by the eruption of Mt. Mayon in 1814.

Sta Ana said that the exhilarating trail in 8-kilomter and 16-kilometer distance categories will loop in rivers and muddy farmlands hurdled by steep climbs and giant stones. Both categories will have a registration fee of P300.00.

Gun start time at 6:00 am at the Daraga Park in front of Daraga Municipal Hall.

She furthered that three winners each for men and women categories will be chosen in both 8k and 16k trail run.

Prizes at stake for 8k are P3,000.00 for the top finisher, P2,000 for second place and with P1,0000 for the third spot, while the same prizes await top honors in 16k yet with added gift packs containing sports paraphernalias.

Cagsawa Trail Run is organized through the partnership of the municipal government of Daraga, headed by Mayor Gerry Jaucian, and the province of Albay, led by Governor Joey Salceda, together with Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH), Bicol Cancer Center (BCC) and Dios Mabalos po Foundation Inc.

Sta. Ana averred that proceeds of running event will be used to help the cancer patients at Bicol Cancer Center along with the victims of the typhoon Sendong in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro to be fascilitated by Dios Mabalos Po Foundation. (MAL/SAA, PIA V/Albay)
