Singson asks DPWH officials, employees who act as contractors to quit

LEGAZPI CITY, June 28 (PIA/DPWH) -- “Your time is up. You have already almost a year benefiting from what you’re doing,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio L. Singson told DPWH officials and employees who are also reportedly acting as project contractors or middlemen and collectors for contractors of the department.

Secretary Singson issued this warning to stubborn officials and employees of the department who are not in favor of his transparency and transformation reform program.

He said that in his nearly one year of service as DPWH Secretary, there are still enemies of his reform program within DPWH.

“These people who want to stay in their comfort zones should look for other jobs outside the department. They should not wait for me to make the first move to have them taken out of the DPWH,” Secretary Singson said.

Secretary Singson reiterated his call to support his reform and good governance program after the DPWH has celebrated its 113th anniversary on June 23.

He thanked and at the same time appealed to all upright officials and employees to do what is right, and only for the good and interest of the general public as people expect a big change in DPWH.

“We want to restore public trust in DPWH,” he added. As reported earlier, the government through DPWH was able to save about P2 Billion in taxpayers’ money through open, competitive and transparent bidding nationwide since July 2010 and about P7 Billion more funds will be saved for this year as the agency further institutionalizes reforms in the bidding process and also pursues the transformation program.

Secretary Singson also mentioned that with the establishment of the DPWH call center 165-02, he expects addressing more complaints and grievances received by the department. The call center is aimed at promoting transparency and improving complaints and feedback mechanism of the department. (DPWH V)
