DOLE offers a ‘Major-Major Jobs Baratilyo’ on Labor Day
“Shopping is always fun, but shopping to find a job is even better.” Ivy Milagrosa, 20 years old, single, from Putiao, Pilar, Sorsogon is optimistic to finally land ‘any’ job in DOLE-Bicol’s Labor Day Jobs and Livelihood Fair held on May 1-2 at the 3rd Level Car Park of SM Naga in Naga City.
The affair is in cooperation with Metro Naga PESO, SM Naga, and ABS-CBN Bicol. “Madaming mga bakanteng trabaho at kumpanya, sabi nga sa TV parang sale daw. Sale ng trabaho," Ivy added.
As early as the first radio and TV plug of the Labor Day event on mid April, thousands of job applicants are in high hopes.
“They are eagerly waiting for May 1. Calls and text messages keep on coming until the cell phones inbox is full of messages” Jessie Magayanes, 40 years old, anchor man of DZRC AM said.
Dubbed as “Labor Day Major-Major Jobs Baratilyo”, the event, DOLE-Bicol said, boasts of 75- participating companies that offered over 10,000 local and overseas job vacancies.
The May 1 event was a must see opportunity for the region which now falls on a 3.5% inflation rate with over 5,000 newly graduates which in turn will be counted on the Labor Force Participation Rate (LPFR) or the number of able bodied persons ready for work.
The jobs fair wasalso a strategy to absorb the newly grads this March.
However, aside from the jobs fair, DOLE Bicol also conducted a livelihood fair on May 2 at the same venue. The livelihood fair showcased the products of DOLE Bicol’s livelihood projects around the region.
“At least 20 groups or accredited co-partners (ACPs) exhibited or displayed their products including our three (3) national winner last year, showcasing to the public that the government fund entrusted to DOLE is being put to good use and is really going back to the people.” DOLE Bicol Director Atty. Alvin M. Villamor said.
Vacancies listed for the jobs fair included for local employment: call center agents, sales clerks, checkout clerks, accounting staff, accountants, office clerk, sales representative, account managers, computer technicians and sales, merchandisers, sales lady, electricians or wiring electrical, management trainees, welders, advertising and promotions and many more
For overseas employment: pipe fitters, electricians, mechanical workers, welders, domestic helpers, nurses, computer programmers, computer technicians, construction workers, oil depot workers, office clerks, hotel and restaurant workers and many more. (MAL/RPE, DOLE V)
NSO updates list of establishments

VIRAC, Catanduanes, May 3, (PIA) --- The National Statistics Office (NSO) will be updating the list of establishments (ULE)in the province set on May 6 to June 15 this year primarily to provide an updated and reliable sampling frame for the census and survey of establishments.
The ULE involves (1) capturing "new" establishments and listing their characteristics (2) updating the status and characteristics of "old" establishments; and (3) de-listing "closed" establishments that should no longer form part of the List of Establishments (LE).
The 2011 ULE will be conducted in preparation for establishment surveys and censuses and the Survey of the Enterprise in the Philippines.
It shall involve two updating strategies- complete enumeration of establishments in identifies priority areas, and field verification of "no matched" establishments (establishments not listed in the LE) from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) 2010 Edition of Top 25000 Corporations; Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) list of operating registered enterprises as of December 31, 2010; and Clark Subic Marketing Directory located outside the identified priority areas.
The list will also serve as a guide to survey planners in the geographical allocation of resources based on the number of establishments in the area.
The ULE is a regular activity of the Industry and Trade Statistics Department of NSO and being undertaken nationwide. (MAL/EAB, PIA Catanduanes)
