SP urges LGU, agencies to have breastfeeding rooms, corners
by Edna A. Bagadiong

VIRAC, Catanduanes, May 27 (PIA)--- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Catanduanes has urged the Local Government Units (LGUs) and all the agencies and other government instrumentalities in the province to establish breastfeeding corners or rooms in their respective offices.

Resolution No. 077-2011 sponsored by PBM Wilfredo Santelices and passed by the board in its 19th regular session last May 10, also calls on the agencies and LGUs to conduct a pro-breastfeeding campaign pursuant to Executive Order 51 and 273.

According to Santelices, establishment of such rooms and corners in offices would allow mothers in their respective workforce to breastfeed their babies or express breast milk while at work. It would also allow clients or customers who visit their office for official purposes to breastfeed their infants while waiting to be served.

The move is in pursuit of the country’s commitment to attain the Millennium Development Goals which among others seek to reduce child under-nutrition, by half of 2009 levels by 2015 as well as child mortality by two-thirds in the same year. (PIA Catanduanes)
