LEGAZPI CITY, May 6 (PIA) – Albay governor Joey Sarte Salceda has been invited as panelist and speaker at the third annual Disaster Preparedness Forum on July 2, 2015 at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The forum is an annual event hosted by CSR Asia and sponsored by Prudence Foundation. The event is expected to draw the attendance of more than 150 participants and be widely covered by the media as based on the success of the previous year’s forum.
“Both of our organizations are committed to strengthening the role the business sector can play in helping communities build capacities for disaster preparedness, response and recovery,” CSR Asia chairman Richard Welford said.
“This year’s forum titled “Creating Values through Strategic Partnerships” will focus on bringing together key leaders in business, humanitarian and government sectors across the Asia-Pacific region to help advance and form strategic partnerships for community disaster preparedness,” Welford added.
Salceda will be participating in the panel titled “The evolving role of business in community disaster preparedness and the need for strategic partnership” together with individuals representing the private sector, humanitarian and media to help provide a holistic view on the said area.
Among the other expected panelists are Oliver Lacey-Hall, UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs regional director for Asia and the Pacific; Augustine Anthuvan, Channel News Asia editor; Nick Finney, Save the Children regional director of Asia and Mark Fancy, Prudence Foundation executive director.
Aside from the panel, Salceda will also be presenting in the session dubbed “Creating an enabling environment for strategic business engagement”.
Mark Fancy, Prudence Foundation executive director, noted that the forum would be an excellent platform to foster public-private dialogue and showcase the important work undertaken by the province of Albay.
Welford and Fancy furthered that they sincerely hope for Salceda to accept their invitation to speak about his approach and experience with engaging the business sector in the area of disaster preparedness.
The third annual Disaster Preparedness Forum will be bringing together key leaders in business, humanitarian, and government sectors across the Asia-Pacific region to help advance and form strategic partnerships for community disaster preparedness.
Coordinated efforts between these sectors can significantly reduce post-disaster recovery spending, damages and losses.
The significant social and economic cost of recent disasters in Thailand, Japan and the Philippines highlights the need to invest in disaster preparedness for more effective response and recovery.
Participants in the said forum are expected to learn about opportunities for businesses to address disaster related community needs through partnerships that leverage each sector’s unique competencies and create value for all involved.(MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay)
