LEGAZPI CITY, July 22 (PIA) – Victims of typhoon Glenda in Albay can now avail of calamity assistance offered by government financing institutions (GFI) as the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) has declared the province under state of calamity.
Albay Governor Joey Salceda earlier said that calamity assistance packages have been approved by the economic sectors group and requested with concerned agencies as part of the recovery and reconstruction plan of the province.
“A package of monetarist approaches to post-disaster reconstruction were approved by the economic sectors group as part of the Plan of Albay Glenda Early Recovery and Reconstruction (PAGERR) and were requested with the concerned agency present.” Salceda said.
These packages are offered by Pagibig, Social Security System (SSS) and Government System Insurance Service.
Eligible Pagibig members in Albay can avail of automatic approval of P150, 000 home improvement loans or up to 80% of member contributions payable in 24 months with 4% interest rate.
Pagibig board of trustees chair and Vice President Jejomar Binay also announced yesterday that some P6 billion calamity fund has been allocated for members affected by typhoon Glenda.
Loan applications can be filed within 90 days from the declaration of a state of calamity.
Meanwhile Albay-based SSS members, said Salceda, can avail of deferral of installment payment on housing and members’ loan for 12 months while pensioners can get in advance their three months worth of pension.
These benefits are part of the SSS calamity relief package which allows eligible members to renew their salary loans, avail of house repair loans with easier terms, and advance their pension payments.
The deadline of submission of applications under the SSS calamity relief package is on October 31, 2014.
The same assistance is also available for Albay-based GSIS members.
GSIS Legazpi manager Joel Defeo said eligible members can now file their application for emergency loans from July 21 – August 20, 2014.
“GSIS now accepts application for Emergency Loan effective July 21 - August 20, 2014 for active members residing or working in the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, CamSur, CamNorte and Catanduanes,” he said.
“Loanable amount is P20,000 payable in 36 months or 3 years at 6% interest per annum,” Defeo added.
To qualify for the emergency loan, the member-applicant must be: a bona fide resident or employee of the government office within the declared calamity area; be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay; has no pending criminal or administrative charges; has no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions; and has no loan that has been declared in default.
