LEGAZPI CITY, July 22 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Albay will celebrate the sesquicentennial or 150 years anniversary of the birth of profound thinker and political philosopher Apolinario Mabini, known as the brains of the Revolution.
Albay governor Joey Salceda has always acclaimed Mabini as his personal model and national hero for DRRM and climate change adaptation within the more overarching fight by the disadvantaged and disabled for social justice.
With the theme “Mabini: Talino at Paninindigan,” the event aims to honor Mabini, the “sublime paralytic,” who being physically handicapped was considered as the brains behind the Philippine revolution.
The event will be highlighted by the unveiling of the statue of Apolinario Mabini, made by reknown scuptress Julie Lluch, in the lobby of the Albay Provincial Capitol at 4pm on July 23, 2014.
Albay poet laureate and consultant for cultural affairs Abdon M. Balde Jr. will deliver a short biography of the hero.
Provincial administrator Jesap Salceda will read the governor's annual Mabini speech.
Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay, PGA Department Heads, officials and staff, civic and military leaders and representatives of the academe, and the local media will be invited to join the event.
Apolinario Maranan Mabini was born on July 23, 1864 in what is now Barangay Talaga of the city of Tanauan in the province of Batangas, Republic of the Philippines.
He served as the prime minister and head of the cabinet of the First Republic under the administration of Emilio Aguinaldo in January 2, 1899. (MAL/SAA/PGAlbay/PIA5)
