VIRAC, Catanduanes, March 6, (PIA)- Catanduanes State University students John Ely Templonuevo and Christine May Petajen made it to the Search for Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol 2014, sponsored by AKB Party List, Commission on Higher Education (CHED V), and Philippine Association of Campus Students Advisers (PACSA).
John Ely ranked 2nd and Christine Mae earned the 8th slot from among the 20 finalists and more than 40 applicants from government and private higher education institutions in Region V.
The award is in recognition of their exemplary performance in scholarship, leadership and service and unwavering commitment to youth participation for Bicol Development.
AKB assures that the award shall give them wonderful opportunities that can make them continue their noble goals for themselves and to their community. They were awarded with Plaque of Recognition and a laptop from AKB Party List.
The awarding ceremonies was held this February 28, 2014 at Bicol University Amphitheatre, Legazpi City at 10:00 in the morning.
Ely and Christine Mae are BSEd graduating students and senior editors of the CSU Statesman, the official tertiary student publication of the Catanduanes State University. They are also actively involved in other youth organizations that pursue proactive development.
This is the 3rd time that CSU joined the search and had earlier produced winners in 2011 --Elmar Templonuevo (BSED magna cum laude), Rank 1, and in 2012--Jonathan V. Tulod (BSCE cum laude), Rank 3.
Both are past Editors in Chief of the CSU Statesman. Elmar is working in a publishing company as editor while pursuing his master's degree in creative writing at DLSU and Jonathan is connected with Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHI-CIDSS), a community-driven development project implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, as Project Engineer.
