NAGA CITY, Feb. 12 (PIA) ---  The Liga ng mga Barangay and the city police office here have forged partnership to help minimize, if not totally eradicate the proliferation of crimes involving riding in tandem and other street crimes in this city.

In a special meeting of the Naga City Peace and Order Council (NCPOC) last week, P/Sr. Supt. Jose Capinpin, officer in charge of the city police office here, records showed tha about 110 crimes involving riding-in-tandem were reported in 2013, wherein only 14 cases were solved while 96 cases are yet unresolved.

The crimes, according to Capinpin, involved are robbery with 13 cases; shooting with 5 cases; and other crimes with 92 cases.

Mayor John Bongat of this city, chair of the NCPOC, has earlier requested PNP Bicol regional office to increase the number of police stations in Naga City to four with adequate manpower alike the city central police station in order that the police response will be quick and easy when the need arises in a certain place.

Bongat said NCPO will pursue and implement programs organizing a Local Anti-Criminality Action Plan (LACAP) in order to address the problem on criminals using motorcycles for robbery, killings, among others; heighten the level of crime prevention programs, improve crime solutions, intensive trainings for selected PNP personnel especially the SWAT personnel, implementation of ordinances, and trainings of tanods in the 27 barangays of Naga City.

“The public, police, barangay officials and community should be united to stop these crimes in order to have a secured and safe living, work and business environment in Naga City”, stressed punong barangay Julian Lavadia, Jr. of Barangay Tabuco.

Lavadia also said that barangay officials, barangay tanods and the police should have regular meetings to plan and find ways to control crimes within the barangay by interacting with the community.

In the same meeting, Liga president Vidal P. Castillo of Barangay Calauag also said that it is important that the authority should work hand-in-hand with the barangay tanods as they are familiar with the residents and the place, hence, making it easy to identify the criminals and report it to the police manning the place.

Castillo also showed the pictures of the criminals that they apprehended in their barangay due to the joint efforts by the police and tanods whenever there is an operation.

The Special Meeting was conducted to discuss important matters and issues affecting the peace and order in the City including the plans and programs of the NCPO.  (MAL/LSM/JRM-PIA5/Camarines Sur)
