LEGAZPI CITY, Feb 11 (PIA) – Handloom weavers in Albay are expecting to boost their production after receiving free handloom machines from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
DTI Bicol information officer Jocelyn Berango said 120 weavers from Libon, Sumlang, Camalig, Anislag Daraga, Banquerohan and Legazpi City will benefit from the said grant.
The grant is part of the two projects under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) program of the DTI launched in the province February 4 and 5 this year.
The two projects aim to upgrade the technology used for handloom weaving in the province.
The handloom units, amounting to P960, 000, is part of the P35 million budget allocated for the SSF program of the Department in the region as cited by DTI Bicol director Jocelyn Blanco during the launching last week.
The SSF program of the DTI seeks to address the low production capacity of existing industries in the rural areas by setting up common service facilities or production centers for center processes that can be accessed and used by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“By providing the micro, small and medium enterprises with equipment, products marketability and efficiency will be enhanced which in turn will generate more jobs and better income,” Berango said.
Berango added the Bukluran Kabuhayan Inc., co-operator of the project, will oversee the operation of the sets of equipment to ensure that it is used for the purpose intended.(SAA/PIA5-Albay)
