LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 5 (PIA) -- Nicole Martinez of Barangay Parang in Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte notched the third top place in the National Search for Exemplary Child 2013 in the recently National Children’s Congress (NCC) in time for the celebration of Children’s Month this October.
The feat of Martinez highlighted Bicol’s successful participation in the congress manifesting the region’s continuous commitment in pursuit of protection of the rights and ensuring the welfare of the children.
“Maraming salamat po, proud po ako dahil nanalo po ako at lahat sila ay magagaling. Natutuwa po ako sa opportunity na binigay nila sa akin. Ipagpapatyuloy ko po ang pagiging mabuting modelo sa mga kabataang katulad ko (Thank you all. I am proud that I won this award and I believe we all deserved these accolades. I am happy with the opportunity given me and I will do my best to be a role model to the youth),” Nicole said.
Exemplary children from region 4-B and CAR, 4-A, 8, 1, won the title National Exemplary Child and 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6 place winners, respectively.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and in partnership with the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), spearheaded anew the second National Cildren’s Congress to help bring out the voices of children beneficiaries on issues directly affecting them.
The five day congress was attended by some 175 beneficiary children coming from the poorest cities and municipalities of 17 Regions of the Philippines.
Undersecretary Parisya H. Taradji of DSWD the activity formed part of the Children’s Month celebration with the theme: “Kahirapan Wakasan, Karapatan ng Bata Ipaglaban.”
Taradji said that DSWD’s top priority is providing the children their much needed programs, services and products that would ensure the protection of their rights and welfare.
She, on the other hand, urged the children to value education and continuously comply with the conditions of the program.
The children participants meanwhile proposed recommendations and possible solutions with these issues in order for the government to respond on the emerging challenges that children are being confronted with.
Workshops, games, presentations, group activity pertaining to the rights of the children are also conducted. (MAL/GALindio-DSWD5/PIA5)
