LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 5 (PIA) -- The three lying-in clinics of this city have registered 466 maternal deliveries since they started operation from the mid-year of 2010 until the present with no death case recorded, City Health Officer Dr. Fulbert Gillego said Saturday.
Gillego reported that the maternity clinic in the southern part of this city located at Barangay Bangquerohan has posted 160 maternal deliveries while the one in the northern area has a total of 125 deliveries.
The main clinic at the City Health Office has recorded 181 deliveries.
Gillego said the three clinics are operating 24 hours daily with medical modern facilities and equipment and managed by professional doctors, midwives, nurses and other medical staff. Aside from maternity services, these lying-in clinics also offer medical, dental and ultra-sound services, he added.
Just last Wednesday, around 500 pregnant women of this city availed themselves of free medical services during the 2nd Buntis Congress in connection with the Nutrition Month celebration at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation here.
The activity has for its theme: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Sama-Sama Nating Wakasan (Together, Let Us All Put an End to Hunger and Malnutrition).
The free medical services included dental check-up, tetanus toxoid, urinalysis, hemoglobin, and provision of milk and vitamins.
Gillego said his office will continue to conduct educational campaign, nutrition counseling with free medicines and vitamins, maternal and child health care, infant and young child feeding and other related health services to provide good health condition to both the mothers and the babies in order to maintain zero maternal death case in this city.
He also urged all pregnant women to always apply the breast-feeding method and regularly visit the three lying-in clinics for regular check-up in order to prevent their children from being malnourished.
Gillego said the City Health Office, through its Nutrition Office, posted an 11-percent reduction in the number of malnourished children and “we will continue to work for some nutritional activities in the 70 villages to reduce malnourished cases in this city.”
He said the three lying-in clinics offer free payment up to four maternal deliveries to all pregnant patients who are PhilHealth card holders.
He promised to give the other pregnant women PhilHealth cards in connection with the Emergency Enrollment for PhilHealth para sa Masa Program to give them also a chance to avail themselves of the free medical services of the city administration. ( Emmanuel P. Solis-LGU Legazpi City/MAL/PIA5)
