By Sally A. Atento

LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 5 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the Bicol region has sworn into office yesterday 16 new fire officers at the BFP regional headquarters here.

BFP V information officer Maria Simona Cemitara said this batch can be considered as the cream of the crop after making it among nearly 150 hopefuls from all over the region who vied for the 16 slots given by the BFP national headquarters.

“The said 16 new Fire Officers 1 successfully hurdle the month-long recruitment processes which included Qualifying Examination, Physical Agility Test, Panel Interview, Neuro-Psychiatric Examination and Medical and Dental Examination,” said Cemitara.

BFP V director S/Supt Leonardo Prades Jr, in his message during the event, encouraged the new breed of firefighters to be responsible, efficient and God-fearing stressing the value of right attitude towards their colleagues and the performance of their duties.

This batch will undergo a two-month orientation/training slated August 5 to October 5 this year to prepare them physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually for their job as fire fighters.

The Fire Basic Recruit Course (FBRC) that they need to finish by next year will include lectures and hands-on training to familiarize them with the diverse aspects of work in the fire service such as fire prevention, fire suppression, fire investigation, fire safety inspection and emergency medical and rescue services.

“It is expected that after the duration of this holistic approach to training, each of this 16 young blood will embody the ideals of a fire fighter ready to fulfill the Bureau’s mandate of saving lives and properties,” added Cemitara. (MAL/SAA/MSC-BFP5/PIA5)
