Archdiocese of Caceres launches 1st Penafrancia Film Festival

NAGA CITY, Aug. 15 (PIA) -- The Archdiocese of Caceres in Camarines Sur has launched the 1st Penafrancia Short Film Festival over the weekend aimed at utilizing the new media and showcasing the religious zeal to spread the faith and devotion to Inang Penafrancia through a short films.

The Marian-theme film festival will evolve on the theme “Growing in Catholic Faith in Jesus Christ with Mary at the Service of Social Transformation,” that will highlight the month long-celebration of the feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia on September in this city

The archdiocese's Caceres Commission on Communications (CCCom) will take the lead in the planning, mobilization and supervision of the film festival.

Caceres Archbishop Rolando J. Tria-Tirona, OCD has commended the organizers for coming up with this endeavor that will help enjoin film makers and viewers alike to spread the faith and devotion to Inang Penafrancia, the patroness of Bicolandia.

“We are not just celebrating the feast of our Lady of Peñafrancia but we are also drawing creativity in three fields through partnership, spirituality and concrete action. Spirituality is not just a subjective emotion but should be transformed into action,” Tirona said before the members of the tri-media during the press conference.

Fr. Louie Occiano, CCCom director and project chair of the 1st Peñafrancia Short Film Festival, believed that our devotion to Inang Peñafrancia should not get lost in the midst of the digital revolution, but rather compliment in disseminating this faith across the globe.

“We now belong to the new era of digital world, and what better way to promote Ina’s virtues but through this medium. I am enjoining everyone, particularly the short film makers, professional or non-professional, and interested video enthusiasts to support this first ever endeavor as we embark on spreading the devotion to our Lady of Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia,” Occiano added.

The contest is open to all professional and non-professional short film makers. Participants should submit a registration form and may submit no more than one (1) original video. The videos may have multiple co-producers but only one should be listed as the primary contact once the entry has been approved by the board of jurors.

The short film, with a 30-minute maximum duration, must depict the essence of Bicolano devotion to our Lady of Peñafrancia by portraying positive values, promoting deep faith in God and inculcating Bicolano identity. Entries containing immoral, defamatory, obscene or scandalous content, or any similar content which, in the discretion of the organizer, is not in keeping with the accepted culture of Bicolanos, will be deemed ineligible.

Respected jurors from the film industry will judge the entries in the following criteria: Adherence to the theme (30%), Originality (20%), Composition and coherence of audio and video ( 25%) and Quality of Cinematography (25%).

Three (3) winners will be chosen and will be given cash prizes of P100,000.00, P75,000.00 and P50,000.00 for the first, second and third placers respectively. A special award dubbed as “People’s Choice Award will be bestowed to the most liked video downloaded in YouTube and Facebook. The winner of the People’s Choice award will receive P25,000.00.

The local government of Naga, through the headship of City Mayor John Bongat is also in full support of this activity.
