Prov'l gov't intensifies campaign for environmental protection

VIRAC, Catanduanes, July 19 (PIA)- The provincial government has formed a task force to help protect the province's ecology and environment

Governor Araceli B. Wong signed yesterday Executive Order No. 07 creating the 'Task Force Clean and Green' and designating Vice Governor Jose J. Teves, Jr. as head of the group.

Based on the order, the protection of the province's natural resources as an instrument in attaining sustainable growth and development is one of the policies declared by the present administration.

The task force shall be composed by the following: Vice Gov. Teves, Task Force Head and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Assistant Head.

The members are: Philippine National Police Prov'l Director; Philippine Army Battalion Commander; League of Municipalities of the Province; SP Chair on Environment;Prov'l Legal Officer; and representative from the local media.

The team shall monitor quarry operations and assist in the identification of quarry sites and thereupon ensure that pertinent laws and regulations relative to quarry operations are observed and protected in the province.

It shall also monitor and submit recommendations if necessary, regarding the prevention of illegal mining operations in the province.

Furthermore, the task force shall perform the following duties: To craft and implement Clean and Green Program of the prov'l gov't particularly on matters related to composting, garbage segregation and disposal; and to monitor and assist in apprehending illegal logging activities in the province.

Clean and Green program is being undertaken by the government to ensure the protection and preservation of the natural resources in the country.(MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
