LEGAZPI CITY, July 19 (PIA) -- The Land Tax Division of the City Treasurer’s Office here posted a total real property tax collection of P72,652,327 in the first semester of this year exceeding by P5,673,009 or 8.5 percent the first six-month tax take from real property during the same period in 2012 amounting to P66,979,318.
Maximo Ajero, Land Tax Division chief foresees that if the same collection would be made during the second half of the year, this would mean a total collection of about P145 million for the year 2013.
Ajero said that in 2012, his office posted a remarkably high real estate tax collection of P107,576,279, with an increase of P8,125,398 or 8.2 percent over the 2011 total collection of P99,550,877.
This 2011 collection, in turn, had an increase of P14,333,646 or 16.82 percent over the collection of P85, 217,231 in 2010, he said.
The city tax also said the improvement in the real property tax collection was the result of the effective implementation of Geographic Information System that produces thematic layers for planning, identification of delinquent taxpayers and business operations as well as the adoption of Enhanced Tax Revenue Assessment and Collection System (ETRACS), which is an automated assessment of taxes and other business fees.
Ajero revealed that the two highly technical systems are operating under the Boosting Legazpi through Land Information for Advancement, Sustainability and Transparency (BLAST) project of the city government managed by the City Planning and Development Office, City Assessor’s Office and City Treasurer’s Office to identify whether the real property is delinquent or not.
It also aims at monitoring the business establishments operating around the territorial areas of the city.
The ETRACS and the GIS were assisted by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusSAID) under the Land Administration and Management Project.
The AusAID granted P4.5 million to the city government for the project, Ajero said. (MAL/MPSolis-LGU Legazpi City/PIA)
