VIRAC, Catanduanes, July 8 (PIA) -- Catanduanes State University (CSU) recently conducted an orientation program for the beneficiaries of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Student Financial Assistance Program (StuFAP) at the CSU Student Center.

Dr. Belen Azul, CHED Bicol chief education program specialist, led the team in disseminating to the scholars and their parents the Commission’s mandate to “establish and maintain a system of scholarship grants, student loan programs, subsidies, and other incentives which shall be available to deserving students in both public and private schools, especially the underprivileged."

Prof. Amelia B. Armea, CSU student services director, and Dr. Nancy D. Magtagnob, scholarship coordinator, facilitated the gathering of the student beneficiaries, together with their parents, in the orientation program.

Cyril Badiola, education program specialist of CHED Bicol, discussed the StuFAP implementing rules and regulation, while Diana B. Ngilo, an accountant, tackled the StuFAP financial matters, and Gladiola C. Lucena, administrative aide, talked about the rules on claims of CHED’s financial assistance.

The scholars signed the StuFAP Pledge of Commitment to, “carry out the terms and conditions prescribed in the revised implementing guidelines of the CHED Student Financial Assistance Programs” which is composed of Full Merit/Half Merit, Tulong Dunong, and the Study Now Pay Later Plan (SNPLP).

The scholars are expected to maintain a general weighted average of 2.5, B, or 80 percent for Full Merit, Half Merit and SNPLP, and a passing grade for Tulong Dunong grantee.

Full Merit is a State Scholarship Program (SSP) intended for graduating high school students whose general weighted average (GWA) is at least 90 percent in the third year and at least 90 percent in the first three grading periods in the fourth year. They are to enrol either in public or private HEIs. This provides P30,000 financial support per semester.

Half Merit is a Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA) intended for graduating high school students whose GWA is at least 85 percent in the third year and at least 95 percent in the first three grading periods in the fourth year. They are to enrol in degree programs in private HEIs. Grantees enjoy P15,000 financial assistance every semester.

Tulong Dunong is a grant-in-aid program intended for graduating high school students whose GWA is at least 80 percent in the third year and at least 80 percent in the first three grading periods in the fourth year. Beneficiaries can get P12,000 per semester.

Meanwhile, the Study-Now-Pay-Later-Plan (SNPLP) is an educational loan intended to provide financial assistance to deserving students who are enrolled or to enroll in a degree program at any curriculum year level in private HEIs. SNPLP provides scholars with P15,000 per semester.

CSU President Minerva I. Morales has also manifested her support in CHED's scholarship program noting its importance to its beneficiaries.(CSU/MAL/EAB-PIA5)
