BU grad school launches studies on rural devt, local governance

LEGAZPI CITY, July 8 (PIA) -- The Bicol University Graduate School (BUGS) launched the Master in Rural Development and Diploma in Local Government Management on June 27 at the BU Amphitheatre here.

The event was highlighted by a lecture forum on the theme “Inclusive and Sustainable Growth through Good Governance.”

Cabinet Secretary Jose Almendras keynoted the launching ceremonies stressing the importance of inclusive and sustainable governance along with the plans and action taken by the government in attaining it.

Almendras also underlined the role of various sectors in supporting these plans and actions and in promoting PNoy’s “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap" advocacy.

“All are part of the solution. Things can happen, and if we wrestle the problem, we can solve it,” Almendras said.

The studies are under the Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Local Governance (JMRILG).

This institute, formerly named BU Institute of Local Governance, aims to recognize the national legacy of the late DILG secretary and the role he played in the development and implementation of diploma program in Local Government Management.

Currently, Dr. Ma Celina Meneses of the BU Office of the President (OP) bared 33 students are enrolled for the fourth batch of students under the Diploma program while 12 students will pioneer the masteral studies this semester.

The Master in Rural Development Program aims to produce graduates who can act on environmental issues and concerns, provide expertise in the components of the program and be middle level managers/researchers to serve as community development specialists in the rural areas. (MAL/SAA/PIA5-Albay)
