IRIGA City, July 8 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Office recently launched the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Roving Academy at the Iriga Plaza Convention Center here with the theme “Gabay-Negosyo sa Pag asenso”.
Launched in partnership with the Provincial Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council (PMSMEDC), local government unit of this city and various government agencies and private entities, the activity aims to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to engage in small and medium initiatives and ensure their competitiveness in the global market along with other economy players.
DTI’s role is to ensure that partakers will be provided with a continuous learning program that will aid them in the promotion of their products and services.
In her discussion about their agency’s Shared Service Facility project, DTI Camarines Sur Provincial Director Edna Tejada shared her thoughts on achieving the Medium Term Development Plan as envisioned by President Benigno Aquino, particularly focusing on programs that would alleviate poverty and enhance the lives of the community.
“Our goal is to increase productivity, achieve these plans until 2016 and beyond, achieve inclusive growth and address the gaps by using various strategies like integration with national government agencies and by assisting SMEs through monitoring and provision of trainings and machinery,” Tejada added.
Iriga City Mayor Ronald Felix “Gang-Gang” Y. Alfelor, as host of the event, warmly welcomed all the participants which includes heads and representatives of various government agencies, proprietors, entrepreneurs, businessmen, members of the academe, members of the media and other stakeholders in the first ever Small and Medium Entrepreneur Roving Academy exhibit, showcasing among others, the best of Iriga products.
Also invited to grace the said occasion is PMSMEDC Chairman Solomon Ngo who commended the DTI for coming up with an activity that would boost the level of commitment for development and its strong support towards building globally competitive businesses in the countryside.
The Roving Academy will also fit the example of Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) or building a perfect relationship between and amongst government agencies and private sector organization whose endeavor are geared towards SME development.
This newest endeavor of DTI together with partner agencies which include the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and other related agencies, is also supported by the Magna Carta for MSMEs, a landmark legislation which clearly stipulates the role of the state to support, strengthen and encourage the growth and development of SMEs.
Thriving entrepreneurs like Ms. Lydia Lomibao of J.Emmanuel Pastries and Mike Dynchinco of Grass Art collection were also invited to share their success stories and tell the tale of the significant help that the government has extended to them in realizing their visions.
