PILI, Camarines Sur, June 13 (PIA) -- Under the theme “ Celebrating a Legacy of Filipino Creativity, Talent and Ingenuity”, Pili Mayor Tom Bongalonta, led the commemoration of the 115th year of celebrating our Independence as a country free from colonial rule.
The activity, which also coincided with Pili’s remembrance of its 58th Founding Anniversary the capital town of Camarines Sur, was held at Plaza De Cimarrones and was attended by members of the 9th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (PA), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Office V, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (BISCAST), Boy Scout and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, Provincial government officials, personnel and local officials of LGU Pili and various associations and organizations.
Invited as Guest Speaker is the Commanding General of 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, Major General Romeo V. Calizo,PA AFP.
One of the highlights of the said celebration is the raising of various flags signifying the different historic timelines in our history. During the flag raising ceremony, various flags were hoisted showing its evolution from the Katipunan Flag up to the current flag that we are using.
In between this period, various Katipunan flag and war banners like the Katipunan War Standard, Bonifacio’s Katipunan War, the First Philippine Flag, Sun of Liberty, Llanera’s Skull Flag, Magtagumpay War Standard and the General G. del Pilar tri color were used during the various transitions of government until the modern times where we are now using the Modern flag that had been introduced to us in June 2, 1898.
Following its national theme “Kalayaan 2013: Ambagan tungo sa malawakang Kaunlaran,” all the 35 towns, including the province’s two cities simultaneously conducted various activities in a unified stand to commemorate this momentous feat for us Filipinos.
In Naga City, Mayor John Bongat spearheaded the raising of flag and the patriotic oath amidst the pouring rain, acknowledging the great accomplishment that our forefathers have done to give us this much coveted freedom. The Independence Day celebration held at the Plaza Quezon, is one of the highlights of Naga City’s 65th Anniversary celebration as chartered city.
Other towns, like Sipocot, Goa and San Jose among others also joined the said celebration through a loyalty parade involving the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and other attached agencies. (MAL/LSM/PIA5-Camarines Sur)
