LIGAO CITY, May 5 (PIA) -- With only fifty-six days before the end of his Presidency, President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III has conveyed his gratitude to the people of the province of Albay during his visit here and in Legazpi City today.

On a gathering at at the City Pavillion here, he was but thankful to all the Bicolanos’ support of his administration during its stay, with cooperation resulting to positive and considerable growth.

The growth Aquino is pertaining to are the infrastructure improvements in the province due to the increased budget to Php 21.8 billion from 2011 to 2016 for infrastructure projects, in comparison to Php 4.3 billion last 2010.

Reinforced by the testimonies of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) recipients, President Aquino took pride of the program’s effectiveness which now supports 77,536 beneficiaries in Bicol.

The President also mentioned the lowered unemployment rate and increased heath care coverage in Albay, in reference to the rise of PhilHealth membership to 1.8 million. With this, he said that we (the Filipinos) have already started moving forward and we should continue on.

Before going to this city, Aquino attended the inauguration of two development projects in Legazpi City: the widened Yawa Bridge, and the Tibo Pumping Station.

He stressed that these are two very important projects, specially the pumping station which lessens threat of flooding in Legazpi City.

“I could not have done it alone” said the President during his speech in this city as he showed appreciation of the support from the Albayanos. Aquino even asked if he could keep the “P-Noy, Salamat” sign held by the crowd as a souvenir.

President Aquino took his time with his speech, then said: “I’m sorry if I’m taking too long, but it’s like I’m saying good-bye”.

The visit in Bicol is perhaps Aquino’s last visit as the current president of the Republic of the Philippines, with the national elections only three days away. (MAL/JBE-PIA5)
