PILI, CAMARINES SUR, Feb.12 (PIA) --- President Benigno Aquino III led the inauguration of the 3.94 kilometers Pili Diversion road today.
The widened road section is one of the projects that President Benigno Aquino III cited as “ginhawang dulot ng mabuting pamamahala” or the result of good governance.
The P66.32-million project which started in March 2014, includes the widening of the said road section from a two to a 4-lane highway. It was finally completed in January 2016.
After the Pili Diversion Road was formally opened, 6,000 vehicles need not pass the Pili Poblacion, decongesting the small town’s lanes as a result and benefitting thousands of motorists and travelers who now enjoy ease of transport going to neighboring towns and provinces.
Aquino also conducted a windshield inspection of the newly refurbished San Jose Bridge which was completed in June 2015. The two-lane road has been strengthened and its dilapidated foundation replaced to give way to the 4-lane bridge, a first in the history of the province of Camarines Sur.
The President made mention that the two projects are part of the comprehensive strategies under the Daang Matuwid that seeks to invest more infrastructures as part of its development agenda.
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio L. Singson during his short briefings on the status of infra projects in Camarines Sur, stated that of the 651kms of national road in the province, only 48kms were not yet paved or cemented. This he said, means the completion of 93 per cent of the roads which are either cemented or already asphalted.
“The almost 48-km unpaved roads are either located in far flung areas or still having problems with peace and order issues. But rest assured that they will be completed this 2016 as part of the Aquino’s administration mission to ensure that all our national roads follow the standard quality and safe.”
The P4.73B infra project for Camarines Sur from 2005 to 2010 was tripled under the Aquino government raising it to P15.96B. Forty-percent of which according to Singson, went to the upgrading and security of national roads all over the country.
Aquino said that they have already completed and near the completion of road projects covering the Tigaon-Goa-San Jose-Lagonoy-Guijalo Road, Pili-Tigaon-Albay Boundary Road, and Daang Maharlika.
Out of the 7,200 kilometers of national roads to be refurbished, the Aquino administration already completed 6,212 and vowed to finish the remaining kilometers this year. (LSMacatangay, PIAV/Camarines Sur)
