NAGA CITY, Oct. 3 (PIA) --- The Philippine Federation of Rural Broadcasters (PFRB) has convened the first batch of local broadcasters from different media organizations in Camarines Sur for a two-day confab on media's significant role on effective communication of climate change adaptation measures among the populace.
PFRB, along with CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Regional Program for Southeast Asia (CCAFS-SEA) and the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Offices (DA-RFOs), spearheaded the media confab in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija from today until October 6 as an avenue for media practitioners to craft effective brodcast media tools/scripts to help communicate climate change adaptation strategies in various fields.
Dubbed “Climate Change: I-Broadkas Mo!”- Mobilizing the Rural Sector for Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation: A Pilot Radio Campaign in the Philippines, the activity also endeavors to familiarize rural broadcasters on climate change, agriculture and food security and for them to eventually develop a workplan on the production of radio scripts regarding climate change, specifically anchoring which to the uniqueness of their respective regions.
The workshop also aims to enable participants to appreciate and understand climate change, its meaning, including its concrete manifestations and science innovations for its mitigation and adaptation in the context of agriculture and food security.
Participants are slated to hear talks on understanding climate change in relation to Agriculture and Food Security and its challenges in the Philippines.
Dong Jorge Program Leader on the Climate Change Program from PhilRice will also discuss what is Climate Smart Agriculture. A farmer leader was also invited to share his thoughts on climate change.
PFRB president Rogelio Mantalang will center his talk on the Radio Broadcasting for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation. Other topics for the first day include Communicating Climate Change: Opportunities & Challenges for Broadcasters, Radio Broadcasting for Climate Change & Agriculture and identifying Topics in Broadcasting Climate Change and Agriculture
Group workshops will also be conducted and its results will be presented to the group. The outputs could be included in the list of possible topics for script production. The participants can also share their stories for possible inclusion in a web portal for rural broadcasters. (MAL/LSM-PIA5/Camarines Sur)
