VIRAC, Catanduanes, Oct. 2, (PIA) - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office here urged the remaining 3,097 voters in Catanduanes who has yet to validate their biometrics to be able to vote on the 2016 elections.
According to Comelec Catanduance chief Atty. Ma. Aurea C. Bo-Bunao, some 3,097 out of the 154,819 registered voters in Catanduanesare still without biometrics while 125 have incomplete data in their registration records, including signatures, photos and fingerprints.
The voters without biometrics data are distributed as follows: Bagamanoc, 84; Baras, 275; Bato, 109; Caramoran, 182; Gigmoto, 91; Pandan, 44; Panganiban, 49; San Andres, 869; San Miguel, 125; Viga, 184; and Virac, 1,085.
She said that their office has done everything to raise public awareness on the importance of having complete and validated biometrics.
Comelec Catanduanes has sent letters for final warning, held a fun run, conducted satellite registrations in the barangays and even during fiestas.
Pursuant to Republic Act 10367, otherwise known as “An Act Providing for mandatory Biometrics Voter Registration”, records of those who fail to submit themselves for validation of their registration records on or before Oct. 31, 2015 will be deactivated during the Nov. 16, 2015 hearing of the Election Registration Board which means that they will not be able to vote in the May 9, 2016 and local elections.
Atty. Bo-Bunao said that less than a month before the October 31, 2015 deadline for the validation of voter registration records, the Commission on Elections is still hopeful that the 3,097 will appear before their respective local election officers for the updating and validation of biometrics.
