LEGAZPI CITY, MAY 1 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office here manifested anew its concern for the welfare of children with disabilities following the completion of a new two-storey building for the Early Intervention Program (EIP) located at the compound of the City Social Welfare and Development Office in Barangay Bitano in this city.
DSWD Bicol regional director Arnel Garcia said the EIP building is designed to address the rehabilitations need of children with moderate and severe disabilities, also augmenting the existing facilities and services already provided in the CSWDO.
According to Ma. Marlene Manaya, chief of CSWDO, the center was established in 2003 where the services extended are: physical check up, supplemental feeding, agua therapy and daily physical therapy session for children with cerebral palsy, autism, hydrocephalus and other orthopedic cases. It also provides financial assistance for transportation asssitance and assistive devices for those in need.
To date, there are 60 children being served in the center.
The repair and rehabilitation of the building is funded with the DSWD under the Bottom Up Budgeting (BUB).
Other projects funded by the BUB of the DSWD are expansion of 28 day care center facilities in barangay Victory Village, Rizal, Capantawan, Homapon, Agna, Mariawa. The total amount of BUB fund alocated for these project is 5M.
BUB is an approach in preparing the budget proposals of agencies taking ionto considerations the development needs of the poor cities or municipalities as identified in their respected local poverty reduction action plans that shall be formulated with strong participation of basic sector and other CSOs.
