DAET, Camarines Norte, August 11 (PIA) – Daet was adjudged as the most competitive municipality based on the 2014 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index” (CMCI) conducted by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC).
This was the second consecutive year that the town emerged as one of the country’s most competitive municipalities. Last year Daet was named fourth most competitive municipalities.
This year, the CMCI featured a record number of 136 cities and 399 municipalities or a total of 535 local government units in the country. The selection was based on 30 weighted indicators measuring economic dynamism, government efficiency, and infrastructure. Daet bested 399 other municipalities to come on top of the overall list and once again topped the infrastructure category.
For this year, the most competitive municipalities were Daet (Camarines Norte), followed by General Trias (Cavite) and Kalibo (Aklan). Daet was also ranked 1st in infrastructure indicators followed by the municipalities of Rodriguez in Rizal and Paniqui in Tarlac, based on road network, basic utilities and registered vehicles.
This accomplishment was one of the highlights of Mayor Tito Sarion’s mid-year METRO (Moving Economy Towards Real Opportunities) Daet report held Monday (August 11) to the Sanguniang Bayan members, chief of offices, national government agencies and the media.
Mayor Sarion said that these were achieve primarily due to Daet LGU’s persistent efforts to implement programs and projects that created economic impact, putting in place efficient business processing and licensing systems, modern infrastructures, effective data capturing and utilization of the results of community based management system, local governance financial management and the seal of good housekeeping, among others.
He said that these achievements will further embolden his administration to work harder and not lose the gains made during his incumbency, noting that there is already a pressure to consistently excel in local governance and always be at par with the best of the best.
Mayor Tito Sarion and the chief of offices of the local government of Daet personally received the twin citations during the 2nd Annual Regional Competitiveness Summit held August 7, 2014 at the Summit Hall, Philippine International Convention Center.
Meanwhile, the most competitive cities were Makati, Cagayan de Oro (Misamis Oriental) and Naga (Camarines Sur).
Last year there were only 163 municipalities assessed all over the country. (AAN/RBM-PIA5/Camarines Norte).
