LEGAZPI CITY, Mar. 6 (PIA) – The Women’s Month celebration in the Bicol region led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development highlights the role of women as “drivers of change” in their respective communities and the entire country.
This year’s theme “Juana, ang Tatag mo ay Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong!” pays tribute to the strong and resilient “Juanas” who brought inspiring changes here in the country and across the globe.
The celebration recognizes the role of women in the rehabilitation process and their over-all contributions to progress.
DSWD Bicol director Arnel Garcia said in the region, said celebration will kick-off with ”Juana walk and Juana Zumba” on March 18, 2014.
The walk will start at 6:30 in the morning from Peñaranda Park going to Camp Simeon Ola at the Philippine National Police regional office here.
It will be followed by a short program and the One Billion Rising Dance to be performed by children from the Haven, one of the centers of the department.
Members of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking (RIACAT) – Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) including the Philippine Information Agency, local government units (LGUs) and People’s Organizations (POs) will be taking part in the said activity.
The observance of International Women’s Day (IWD) is also celebrated each year to recognize working women around the world.
In line with this observance, the first week of March each year is declared as Women’s Week and March 8 as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day pursuant to proclamation no.224 series of 1988.
Women’s Role in the history is also observed this month under Proclamation no. 227 series of 1998.(MAL/SAA/PIA5-Albay)
The observance of International Women’s Day (IWD) is also celebrated each year to recognize working women around the world.
