NAGA CITY, March 4 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) central fire station here has intensified fire safety awareness campaign implementing various programs consonant to its theme “Isulong ang Kaunlaran, Sunog ay Iwasan, Kaalaman at Pag iingat ang Kailangan" in time for the Fire Prevention Month this March.
The BFP station here commenced over the weekend the month long campaign with the “Walk for a fire-free and Fire-Safe Naga” participated in by the bureau's personnel, Naga White Volunteer Fire Rescue, Chin-Po-Tong Fire Volunteer Inc., BJMP and Public Safety Office personnel and other stakeholders. Barangay officials and barangay and company fire brigades, police interns and students from various colleges and universities participated in the said exercise.
Chief Inspector Rachel R. Verbo, Naga City Fire Marshall, enjoined the participants, particularly owners of various establishments and edifices, including landlords of various boarding houses and lodging facilities here to strictly abide by the fire regulations to avoid fire incidents that could result to damage to life and properties.
Fire Inspector Peter Paul Mendoza, chief of Operation and Regulation of BFP Naga City, said that they will be conducting series of activities to emphasize fire safety measures and encourage the cooperation of the members of the community to be cautious of the negative consequences of neglecting the basic fire safety rules.
“Part of our campaign is to seek for the assistance of our friends from the tri-media through TV, and radio exposure, like radio hopping and guesting to stress and accentuate the importance of fire safety,” Mendoza stated.
Today, the BFP team conducted a one-day Fire Safety Seminar with barangay participants, business establishments and school participants as invitees. The event was held at the SM Event center where talks on LPG Safety tips were tackled by various Science Research specialists.
Liquified Petroleum Gas or LPG was cited as one of the most common causes of fire, both in households or in edifices.
Partner agencies in the aforementioned activity were the city government of Naga, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Energy (DOE), and Liga ng Punong Barangay.
All lined up for the rest of the month are the joint inspection of boarding houses in cooperation with the Naga City Price Monitoring Committee (NCPMC) and On site seminar at Starview Plaza Hotel and FPD Consolidated Inc,. all located in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Naga City.
BFP personnel will also discuss fire safety tips to pupils and students after their flag raising ceremony in an activity dubbed “Berong Bumbero sa Paaralan.” This will also be the start of a five-day series of Barangay Ugnayan which will be conducted in the selected barangays of this city.
One of the highlights of the said celebration is a Fire Prevention contests for elementary and secondary students. For the elementary, there will be a drawing contest for interested pupils while for the secondary students they can join in the Poster making, essay writing and painting contests. All of these activities are all geared towards raising the awareness of the community, even of the children in observing fire safety measures.
The month-long celebration will be wrapped up with an earthquake and fire drill at the Naga City hall on the last day of the month. (MAL/LSM-PIA5/CamSur)
