VIRAC, Catanduanes, March 4 (PIA) -- The Diocese of Virac is celebrating its 40th Foundation Anniversary of its canonical erection this year.
During a meeting of the occassion's steering committee comprised by various sectors of the community on February 19, 2014, Rev. Fr. Allan Basilio, Vicar General of the Diocese of Virac, bared the various activities for the celebration.
Early January this year, orientation-seminar on the Social Teachings of the Church is being conducted on various schedules. The Launching of the Alay-Kapwa program which has a mission of sharing for evangelization towards human development will take place on March 5.
Moreover, a Via Crucis, commonly known as Station of the Cross at Holy Cross Shrine of Batalay will also be held on the same date.
Other activities lined-up for the occasion are: Streamlining of persons with disabilities in the Church (Health Care); Health Consciousness Seminar (Diabetes, Hypertension and Arthritis); Vicarial Congress on Mission; Send-Off Mass (Missionaries) – Virac Cathedral; Diocesan Shrine of the Holy Cross Fiesta, Batalay, Bato, Catanduanes.
On May, 2014 the following activities are set: Vicarial Annual Convention of all Liturgical Ministers – Vicariate of Bato; Diocesan Mass and Send-off of all Liturgical Ministers and Vicarial Team of Formators; Diocesan Mass and Commissioning of the Liturgical Ministers; Creation of Vicarial Team of Formators from among the Liturgical Ministers; and Music Festival.
The Diocese is also set to launch the Diocesan Publication and Radio Station and is also scheduled to hold a Diocesan Youth Convention and Religious Concert (All Religious Congregations in the Diocese) on July.
Meanwhile on August which is considered as a Month of the Basic Faith Communities the following activities are scheduled: Convention/Festival of BFC’s; Initial Launching of NEP Manual; Diocesan Pastoral Assembly; Formal Launching of NEP Manual; Clergy Night (40th Sacerdotal Anniversary of Bp. Manolo A. de los Santos)and the Ruby Foundation Anniversary will be celebrated on August 27.
By Virtue of the Papal Bull "Divino Christi Mandato", on May 27,1974, the Diocese of Virac, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Nueva Caceres and formerly part of the Diocese of Legazpi in the province of Albay, was created a separate diocese by Pope Paul VI and canonically erected on August 27,1974 with the Most Rev.Jose C. Sorra,DD as its first Bishop.
Twenty years after,on August 12,1994,the Most Rev.Manolo A. de los Santos,D.D., was appointed as the second bishop of Virac and ordained as bishop on September 12,1994 by Jose Tomas Cardinal Sanchez and on October 10,1994 he was installed as the second bishop of Virac.
This year, the Diocese is on its celebratory phase on the occasion of the Ruby Foundation Anniversary of with the theme: “Bagong Ebanghelisasyon: Pagpabunga kan Pagtubod.” (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
