DAET, Camarines Norte, March 11 (PIA) – Mayor Ricarte Padilla of Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte has urged solidarity among Mambuleños to save Mambulao Bay following findings of heavy siltation with wastes brought by mining activities near the area.
During the 25th Unity Day held Tuesday last week in honor of the late Roy Padilla Sr, former mayor of said town and governor of Camarines Norte, the mayor called on the support of the Mambuleño primarily to observe proper waste disposal in their houses, roads and among others places and cooperate in the implementation of measures for the upkeep of the bay.
He cited that rather than pollute the Mambulao Bay with irresponsible waste disposal, household wastes can be turned into hollow blocks, charcoal and can also be sources of livelihood and opportunities like what they have observed during their “Lakbay Aral” in Taal Batangas and Las Piñas.
He said that they will also make move to push for the proper waste management for their town.
“Let us save Mambulao Bay, it’s dying, nobody can take care of this except us, my father always says that unity is like a piece of sand which you can contribute to the edifice of a building”, he said.
Padilla also said that they will regulate small scale mining and implement stringent measures for responsible mining. As a start they will relocate some 60 families whose main source of income is small scale mining near the bay and they will give livelihood opportunites to those will be affected.
In other developments, the local government unit is also concentrating on the continuous rehabilitation of airport to make it a jump-off point of local and foreign tourists going to “Calaguas Island” of Vinzons.
He said the airport would be geographically accessible going to the “Calaguas Island” that will enable to attract local and foreign tourists to visit the town as well as other province sceneries.
In health care they are targeting zero case of tuberculosis and malnutrition; and aiming zero household without toilet within three (3) years, he said.
He said other projects of the local government unit are the construction of terminal wherein the design is on its final stage as well as the repair/ renovation of market, continuous rehabilitation of roads and the repair of dilapidated classrooms.
Other activities during the Unity Day includes parade, synchronized flag raising, blood letting through “dugo alay sa bayan” and 1st Jomapa Quiz Bee.(MAL/RBM-PIA5/CamNorte)
