DAET, Camarines Norte, March 13 (PIA) – Some 16 family beneficiaries from this municipality and San Lorenzo Ruiz town were provided houses by the Gawad Kalinga (GK) last Saturday, March 8 at the GK Friendship Villages in both localities.
Gawad Kalinga (GK), the municipal government here and Japan Tobacco Incorporated (JTI) partnered for the completion of the housing project.
Daet Mayor Tito Sarion, project director Abeth Maesa of GK Friendship Village; Government Relations Manager Atty. Cyril Lubaton of JTI led the turn-over ceremonies while Fr. Ronald Bardon, parish priest of San Lorenzo Ruiz parish church, administered the blessings .
The “Kapitbahayan” of the GK Friendship Village, headed by Brother Ramil Austria, lauded the stakeholders for a dream come true, now having their own houses.
Beneficiaries received the big “key” as the symbol for the turn-over of the houses to the “Kapitbahayan” during the ceremony.
Sarion said that the housing project was part of the Bayani Challenge 2013 wherein the area was one of the sites of the “Bayanihan”.
He said that through the efforts of local government unit of Daet they were able to solicit nine hectares of land from one Alberto Chavez and family who donated the area where the houses located.
He said that the beneficiaries were indigents formerly residents of Daet and San Lorenzo Ruiz. Of the 20 houses completed, 16 families were able to give their sweat equity, as the major requirement of the GK housing project.
Sarion said that he is committed to the projects of GK and he is working for the pledge of SM-Hypermart to donate more houses through said program.
Lubaton on the other hand said that the funds of P3 million which their company donated for the construction materials will not be worthy if there was no cooperation among stakeholders and the community.
He also pledged another P500,000 for the construction materials of the Multi-Purpose Building for the residents of the GK Frienship Village.
