VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb. 17, (PIA) - The Provincial Tourism Office here conducted a four-day enabling seminar-workshop for Catanduanes’ Local Government Units (LGUs) on February 18-21, 2014 at Rakdell Inn.
According to Mrs. Carmel B. Garcia, provincial tourism officer, the event is a prelude towards the updating of the province’s Tourism Development Plan. She said that it will be anchored and harmonized with the tourism development framework of the eleven (11) municipalities.
The activity also aims to ensure that the province can draw a holistic roadmap for tourism advancement towards inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Topics discussed are the following: Tourism & Tourism Industry; Tourism Landscape; R.A. 9593 (Tourism Act of 2009); National & Bicol Tourism Development Plan and; LGU Tourism Planning.
Bobby Gigantone, DOT V Tourism Officer,served as the resource speaker. He tackled the importance of Tourism in an island province like Catanduanes.
Carmel B. Garcia also said that the activity provided the realization to participants that aside from the income that the province will get from the boost of tourism in the province, it also helps provide jobs to the residents of the places that are being visited by tourists.
Around 45 municipal tourism officers and municipal planning officers participated in the four0day seminar workshop.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wong and Governor Migz Villafierte of Camarines Sur met on Feb. 20, 2014 at Tugawe Beach Resort in Caramoan, Cam Sur for possible Catanduanes- Cam Sur partnership in projects particularly in tourism like the proposed bridge that will connect Catanduanes and Caramoan.
Last week, around 10 Korean investors also visited various spots in the province for prospective invetments. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
