LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- The Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Bicol offers a healthy and benevolent way to celebrate love this Valentine’s Day by organizing and launching of the ‘1st Global Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament’.
The tournament is a 2-week competition to be held at the Healthy Lifestyle Complex of DOH-CHD Bicol.
According to Norberto A. Balane, CHD Bicol Management Support Division chief, the 1st Global Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament is an avenue of discovering not only the mightiest team in the local basketball scene but also an opportunity to show love to the sick and needy by donating at least 10 bags of blood per participating team.
The mobile blood donation is the main event of the launching program on Friday. To give time for the players to build up their strength, the official game was scheduled to start on Monday, February 17.
The 1st Global Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament likewise aims to promote the Healthy Lifestyle (HL) program and Regional Voluntary Blood Services Program (RVBSP) in both the government and private sector.
Dr. Jannish A. Arellano, RVBSP coordinator, said that the tournament will be done purely for the love of sports and humankind as there will be NO cash prize to be given to participating teams. The winning team will only receive a trophy.
She adds that this activity will greatly help the DOH-Regional Blood Center reach its target of collecting 55, 000 blood units as the estimated blood supply requirement of the region. Based on the requests received by the center, 40 to 60 units of blood are needed daily by patients.
Arellano, in behalf of the DOH-CHD Bicol would like to congratulate and thank the kindhearted teams who will be competing for the Global Cup as early as now.
Participating teams include BRTTH, BMC, BFP, BASAROYO, Dawn Riser, Malabog Team, Forest Lake, SAINTS, LCC team, PhilHealth and DOH-RFO V. (MAL/DOH5/PIA5/Albay)
