VIRAC, Catanduanes, Feb. 13 (PIA) -- Barangay Bon-ot in San Andres town will finally have a potable water supply under a project of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) with the support of the municipal governments.
According to provincial agrarian reform officer Alexander Teves, the Community-Managed Potable Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (CPWASH) Project in barangay Bon-ot features low-cost water supply technology and sanitation systems in Agrarian Reform Community (ARC).
In this connection, Teves, San Andres Mayor Peter Cua, Bon-ot barangay captain Gaspar Santelices and Bon-ot Farmers Association chairman Demetrio Rodriguez Jr. signed the memorandum of agreement covering the CPWASH project on January 17.
Under the agreement, DAR Catanduanes provincial office will provide the necessary financial, technical and logistics to facilitate project implementation.
Aside from its counterpart, the municipal government will also expand and/or replicate the project in at least one barangay while the farmers association and the barangay council in Bon-ot will provide the labor, create a Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) committee, as well as jointly manage and operate the project.
DAR will provide P155, 000 for the project while the local government allocated P50, 000.00 as counterpart for labor cost and water analysis.
According to Cua, the financial aid will help ensure that the barangay would have an effective and reliable potable water system to prevent water-borne diseases.
