LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office in Bicol has recently released a total amount of P4,224,530 to fund livelihood initiatives in the provinces of Masbate and Sorsogon.under the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) approach
Acting regional project coordinator Generosa Millete of the Livelihood Unit of DSWD Bicol turned-over the check to the recipient-provinces, including P650,000 for Magallanes, P605,000 for Pilar and P1,349,220 for Donsol, all in the province of Sorsogon
The financial assistance is allotted for various skills training like food processing and preservation, dress making, masonry, engine repair, carpentry, welding, among others.
In Masbate, Mayor Percival Castillo of Mobo town received the amount of P1.1 million from Millete.
Castillo said the amount will be used to fund various trainings like cut flower raising, bio-intensive gardening, nursery management and seed banking.
Targets are around 206 qualified individuals from the women, senior citizens, youth sector and agrarian reform beneficiaries.
Aroroy town likewise received a cash grant of P520,000 for the 100 SEA-K beneficiaries which will venture on noodle production.
BUB system is an approach of the government in preparing the budget proposal of agencies taking into consideration the development needs of the poor cities andmunicipalities as identified in their respective local poverty reduction action plans that shall be formulated with strong participation of basic sector and other civic society organizations.
