LEGAZPI CITY, Jan 17 (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has implemented effective January 10 this year the P8.00 increase in the minimum wage rate in the Bicol region as specified under Wage Order No. RBV-16.
“Actually we have already announced the increase as early as December even before its publication to set the minds of our employers. Some sort of mind conditioning for a smooth implementation of the new wage law,” DOLE Bicol director and Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Chairman Nathaniel V. Lacambra said.
The additional pay, Lacambra said, must be reflected in the next payroll salaries of minimum wage earners.
Employees in establishments with more than ten workers can now receive the P260 minimum wage.
Those employed in establishments with less than ten workers in agriculture and non-agriculture sectors will have P236/day.
Lacambra said the rate applies to all minimum wage earners in the private sector regardless of their position, designation or status of employment and irrespective of the method by which they are paid.
Moreover it does not cover household or domestic workers and persons in the personal service of another such as family drivers and workers of duly-registered Barangay Micro-Business Enterprises (BMBEs) with certificates of authority pursuant to RA 9178.
The new rate took effect after the mandatory 15-day publication period of the wage order.
The wage order was signed December 5 and was published at a local newspaper last December 26, 2013. (MAL/SAA-PIA5/Albay/DOLE5)
