CNHS, CSU studes bag 1st place in Bicol essay prov’l elimination

VIRAC, Catanduanes, Dec. 6, (PIA) – Students of Catanduanes National High School (CNHS) and Catanduanes State University (CSU) bagged the top spots during the provincial elimination of the 2nd Bicol Essay Writing Competition.

Ace John F. Tabuzo of CNHS and Kathleen M. Arcilla of CSU bagged the first place for secondary and tertiary category respectively. They will also represent prvoinceduring the Regional Essay Writing competition in Daet, Camarines Norte on December 14, 2013.

Other winners for secondary level were Camille Rose S. Abundo of CSU Laboratory Schools (2nd place) and Clarice B. Del Rosario of San Andres Vocational School (3rd place).

Meanwhile, Florenio T. Tugay of CSU - Panganiban Campus and Aime P. Cajuday of Christian Polytechnic Institute Of Catanduanes got the 2nd and 3rd spots for the tertiary level.

The 2nd Bicol Essay Writing Competition, with the theme: Towards Achieving Socio-Economic Development and Competitiveness of Bicol Cities and Municipalities, aims to raise awareness on the importance of sustaining the gains of Bicol towns and cities as reflected on the Competitiveness Index.

 It also aims to attract youth participants to contribute their thoughts and ideas on the socio-economic developments of their respective towns and cities and the whole Bicol Region in general.

The competition was composed of two categories: Category I- Secondary (3rd to 4th year High School); and Category II- Tertiary (1st to 4th/5th year) both private and public schools in the province.

Provincial level winners for category I and II will receive P5, 000.00 and certificate (1st Place); P3, 000.00 and certificate (2nd place); P2, 000.00 and certificate (3rd place) during the regional competition while seven (7) contestants in the secondary level and one in tertiary level received  consolation prize of P500.00.

During the closing program, Governor Araceli B. Wong reiterated the importance of youth in nation-building. According to her, they are the ultimate hope of our country.

A total of 20 secondary schools and four tertiary schools throughout the province participated in the activity.

The provincial elimination was handled by a committee composed of the representatives of Philippine Information Agency, Department of Interior and Local Government, Kaya Natin Movement, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, and the concerned local government.

Also present during the event were Municipal Mayors of the towns of Panganiban, Baras and Viga representing the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Catanduanes Chapter. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
