Classes, flights in Albay suspended due to heavy rain

LEGAZPI CITY, Dec 6 (PIA) -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Albay has suspended classes in all levels in both private and public schools as of 11:15 in the morning today due to heavy rains altroughout the provincial area.

Albay Governor Joey Salceda, chair of PDRRMC Albay, has issued the advisory to prevent any eventualities that may arise due to heavy rains pelting the province since last night that may cause anew flooding, landslides, strnding of passengers or may endanger the lives of locales.

Salceda aalso ordered all local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMC) in the province to closely monitor their respective areas for appropriate localized responses.

Rainfall has intensified in the province this morning and may persist throughout the day due to the tail end of the cold front and the surge of Northeast Monsoon affecting the Eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.

Affected areas in the Bicol region are Camarines provinces, Catanduanes and Eastern coast of Sorsogon.

PDRRMC Albay Advisory No. 1 also urged residents of areas prone to floods and landslides are advised to take extra caution. Crossing on rivers and flooded areas are strictly prohibited.

Due to this weather disturbance, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has also cancelled flights 2P-925 and 5J-329 bound from Manila to Legazpi and 2P-926 and 5J-330 from Legazpi to Manila. (SAA-PIA5/Albay)
