Local DRRMCs in Camarines Norte assure readiness for TS “Yolanda”

DAET, Camarines Norte, Nov. 6 (PIA) – The local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils here assured their readiness in manpower and resources in preparation for the threats of the coming typhoon “Yolanda” during the meeting today (Nov.6).

Governor Edgardo Tallado has urged the different local DRRM councils to ensure the availability of their respective manpower and resources that can be tapped in case the said typhoon affect the province.

He said that consistency of reports during calamaties should be observed wherein the PDRRMO will be the sole source of information.

Philippine Athmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) through chief meteorological officer Roger Tuazon said that while the typhoon is not yet entering the province the name is “Haiyan” and when it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is “Yolanda”.

He said that as of today (Nov.6) it cannot be determined if the typhoon will really hit the province and the bicol region as well.

Provincial director Ernesto Pardo of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on the other hand clarified the power of the local chief executive on the freezing of price of commodities and the availment of these in times of calamities under the Price Monitoring Act.

Provincial Agriculturist Francia Pajares said that 30 percent of the palay are for harvest adding that they have informed the farmers if they can gather their produce.

On the other hand members of the PDRRMC here reported their activities and actions for the preparations on the said typhoon wherein the Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel is on full alert,  the Philippine Army (PA) has  standby manpower and mobilities while the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has alerted the gale warning since yesterday.

The representative of the National Food Authority (NFA) on the hand reported the available stocks of 37,000 bags of rice and the disposal for relief operations of 1,000 bags of rice per municipality and 5,000 bags for the province while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is on stockfiling.

The representatives of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Camarines Norte State College (CNSC) campuses assured the availability of their classrooms in case of evacuations.

Among other agencies and offices representatives who also reported their capabilities were the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Camarines Norte Electric Cooperatives (CANORECO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

The municipal DRRMCs of the different towns like Mercedes, Talisay, Vinzons, San Vicente and San Lorenzo Ruiz has already convened a meeting for preparations; Daet and Labo will convene in the afternoon (Nov. 6) while Basud will be tomorrow (Nov. 7).

The radio groups such as CANORA,KABALIKAT Charity and KABALIKAT Civicom also will support the local councils along with the provincial government radio station DWCN-Radyo ng Bayan for information dissemination.  (MAL/RBM-PIA5/Camarines Norte)
