Albay guv orders clearing, decampment: Bicol RDRRMC reports initial assessment

LEGAZPI CITY, Nov. 8 (PIA) -– Albay Governor Joey Salceda has ordered road-clearing operation and decampment of evacuees effective 3 p.m., Friday, right immediately after Pagasa lowered public storm warning signal of typhoon Yolanda in the province.

Salceda has instructed the Provincial Engineering Office to coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Highways to jointly conduct an immediate road-clearing operation as well as assessment of the condition of roads, bridges and other public infrastructures across the province

The governor also advised all municipal and city disaster risk reduction and management authorities in Albay to assess the impact of the typhoon in their respective localities.

Salceda said that as of press time, there was no reported casualty after the onslaught of typhoon Yolanda and the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council is confident that Albay has achieved anew its zero casualty goal.
                                               
The Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO) management meanwhile has partially restored supply of electricity in most parts of Albay.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and the regional disaster risk reduction and management council (RDRRMC) Bicol initially reported the aftermath of typhoon consisted of a total of 154,731 families or 758,808 persons evacuated across the region when local governments carried out their preemptive evacuations of their respective constituents

Damage to agricultural sector, according to the same report, amounted to P48 million covering 1,469 hectares of rice fields and P1.2 million covering 285 hectares of corn plantations

Some 189 houses were totally damaged while 125 were partially destroyed, while portions of roads in Laganoy and Presentacion were impassable due to landslides as of last night.

OCD RDRRMC Bicol also reported a fatality in San Jacinto, Masbate due to electrocution.

Power were also restored in most parts of Bicol region.  (MAL-PIA5/Albay)
