VIRAC, Catanduanes, Oct. 1 (PIA) - The provincial offices here of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Catanduanes Association of Chiefs of Government Offices (CACGO) spearheaded today until Thursday the seminar-workshop on "Communicating the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016" that will boost campaign in popularizing and soliciting the the people' support in the implementation of the plan in the province.
PIA Catanduanes manager Edna Bagadiong said the three-day activity responded to the need of government information officers and advocacy workers to think strategically when applying social mobilization concepts and principles in implementing development programs for their respective agency and to facilitate implementation process of advocacy programs in the local government units (LGUs).
PENRO Joaquin Ed Guerrero, CACGO president, meanwhile said the seminar is expected to open avenues for knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices for development of information officers.
Guerrero said tt is primarily designed to put together wealth of experiences and lessons that will enhance capabilities of information officers in the province of Catanduanes.
The activity, according to the CACGO president, is also provided to develop among information officers and advocacy workers a cadre of aware, conscious and highly committed social mobilizers and communicators who will assist LGUs develop advocacy in communication strategies within the context of national development programs and more importantly lead mobilization efforts to attain local development goals.
"This in turn will redound to the empowerment of people in the local communities to do their part in the local development process," he said.
The participants are expected to 1) Identify basic concepts in print media communication; 2) Enhance and apply knowledge/skills and communicating programs and projects of the respective agencies/ LGUs within the context of the Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016; 3) Open avenues for a continuous updating of knowledge, skills, organized and ultimately become effective communicators and a cadre of development-oriented social mobilizer.
Around 35 information officers from the various agencies of the government in Catanudanes are expected to attend the seminar. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
