BFP Bicol chief found dead off Legazpi City waters

LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 11 (PIA) -- The regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Bicol was found dead on Tuesday afternoon off the coastal waters of Barangay Puro here.

Legazpi City chief of police Supt. Robert Morico, Legazpi City Police Office chief bared that Fire Senior Supt. Leonardo Prades, 55, married, was found dead floating off the waters Puro Boulevard at about 4:30 p.m., Tuesday.

Morico said members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) who were at that time jogging at the boulevard reported having sighted a body floating lifeless some 200 meters from the shorelines of the boulevard.

The PCG men immediately retrieved the floating body, which they later learned to be that of Prades and appeared to be stiffed and with a bluish-colored face.

Initial investigation of the responding scene-of-the-crime operatives said the victim died due to drowning since there were no signs of struggle and foul play manifested on the victim’s body.

Autopsy finding indicated that Prades suffered from cardiac arrest and died while he was swimming.

Chief Inspector Damian Rejano, city fire chief, meanwhile said that the victim was a health buff, who regularly jogged, biked and swam at the city boulevard.

Rejano said a victim’s staff saw him biking at around 6 a.m. on that fateful day and that after biking he went back to the regional office and returned to the boulevard on board his service vehicle.

At around past seven, clad in warmer vest and BFP athletic short, Prades went swimming until he was found dead floating, Rejano said.

The victim, who is a native of Camarines Sur, was already brought to Naga City where his remains lie at the Imperial Funeral Homes.

Prades is survived by his wife Aurora, daughter Lea Zara and sons Winston John, Don Christoper and Nico Jefferson.  (MAL-PIA5/ALbay)
