VIRAC, Catanduanes, Aug 13 (PIA) -- The Catanduanes State University (CSU) here headed the fourth College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Research Seminar in Food and Health Security on July 31 responding to the need to build and sustain the university’s research excellence in food and health security. This will be through new perspectives and innovations in research writing program.
Dr. Aurora E. Araojo, dean of CSU, underscored the seminar-workshop cum mentoring featured results of completed/on-going studies on fish, rice and mangroves (FIRM) which will be presented in the coming research conferences such as the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), Department of Agriculture –Bureau of Agricultural Research National Research Symposium, the Rice Conference at PhilRice, Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines ASEAN Conference, and other scientific meetings
The seminar was sponsored by CAS Natural Science Department (NSD) and BS in Biology curriculum.
The activity also worked for establishing faculty-student mentoring of undergraduate thesis format and tone, and enhancement of knowledge in the technical aspects of thesis writing/scientific paper writing.
Senior students with thesis writing courses and their research advisers and other faculty members willing to mentor students in research also participated in the research seminar-workshop.
Dr. Alvin C. Ogalesco, College of Health Sciences (CHS) faculty, CHS research coordinator (Health Research) delved on the New Perspectives in Health & Wellness Research; Dr. Jimmy T. Masagca, NSD Faculty for Biology & Food Security Catanduanes Sustainable Technology Infusion in Inland Fisheries Development Program (CSTIFDP) researcher tackled New Perspectives & Innovations in the Research Training Program of the BS in Biology Program.
Ma. Cecilia V. Tiu, NSD faculty, also presented the Innovative Format of the BS Biology Thesis, Abelisa D. Evangelista, NSD faculty talked about Research Diaries/Journals/Logs, and Associate Prof. Delia S. Sorra, NSD faculty lectured on Research Advising and Characteristics of the Student Researcher.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ruben P. Tablizo, CAF Dean & CIRDEP co-program leader discussed Agricultural Research & Update of CIRDEP Researches while Dr. Jimmy T. Masagca, Prof. Estrella T. Tribiana & Ma. Cecilia V. Tiu likewise presented to the seminar attendees Update on the Papers for Presentation in National and International fora/Conferences.
Mentoring sessions were also conducted by Rey T. Soneja and Dr. Rene T. Avila for Social Sciences; Vicente G. Padilla and Assistant Prof. Pio Panti for Mathematics, and Dr. Alvin C. Ogalesco, Prof. Elena G. Tasarra, Prof. Angelica Mendoza and Associate Prof. Linda Talan for Health and Nutrition Science and Life Sciences. (MAL/EAB/GSR-CSU PRIS/PIA5)
