VIRAC, Catanduanes, Aug. 15 (PIA)- Members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Catanduanes chapter here elected Mayor Robert Fernandez of Panganiban town as president along with the league new set of officers Tueday, August 13 at the provincial capitol building here.
In his acceptance speech, Fernandez expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence given him by the chief executives of the province while urged every member to support all the endeavours of the organization and to cooperate for the welfare of the people and local governments.
Other elected officers are Mayors Rodel Abichuela of Baras (Vice-President for External Affairs); Joseph Wong of Pandan (Vice-President for Operation); Romeo Villaluna of Bagamanoc (Secretary); Peter C. Cua of San Andres (Treasurer); Edgar Tayam of Gigmoto (Auditor); Jhonny Rodulfo of Bato (PRO); Edna Bernal of San Miguel (Business Manager); Flerida A. Alberto of Virac (Board of Director); and Salvacion P. Iseula (Board of Director).
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Catanduanes provincial director Atty. Arnaldo A. Escober, Jr. led the oath taking rites while other representatives from DILG and LMP national chapter served as witnesses to the election and oath taking.
LMP is an association of mayors in the country with the primary purpose of ventilating, articulating and crystallizing issues affecting municipal government administration.
In his turnover speech, Bato town’s former municipal mayor Eulogio Rodriguez congratulated the new set of officers reminding them that the league of municipalities is mandated to assist the national government in formulation and implementation of the policies, programs and projects affecting the municipalities as a whole.
He likewise emphasized the importance of maintaining good relationship and camaraderie among the members of the league to continue the desire and plans of the group in promoting the welfare of the municipalities. (MAL/EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
